Susan Derges (b.1955) is a UK artist, based in Devon. Much of her work is concerned with the natural rhythms and cycles of nature, using light to fix the metamorphoses of various life forms. Most of her photographs are produced without the conventional use of a camera lens, rather her images are photograms made directly onto photo emulsion and processed in her studio. In her 'River Taw' series, she uses the river as a lens and everything running through it or reflected on the water becomes the image.

These large one-of-a-kind prints are part of Derges’ search to convey the physical and spiritual experience of water and land, the nature of water’s movements, and the human inter-relationship to water.
