While Oscar Bony had a longstanding career in the arts as a painter, he is best known for the body of photographic work that he produced during the last decade of his life, the 1990s. Bony took a very unique approach to photography as he produced a series of large scale photographs of himself, framed them behind glass, and then "reshot" himself by riddling the images with bullets from a 9mm pistol. These violent and powerful works have received world attention and acclaim. This exhibition will be the first individual show of the artist's work in the United States, though his work was recently included in Inverted Utopias at MFAH and Between Violence and Memory at Sotheby's New York.
